What is the PSTN switch-off?

The UK's traditional copper phone network (PSTN) and ISDN lines are being retired. Calls and services will move to digital, internet-based technology such as VoIP and full fibre.

When does the PSTN switch-off happen?

The national stop-sell has already happened and the network is scheduled to close in 2027. Exact dates can vary by exchange and provider, so planning early is important.

What will stop working?

Traditional phone lines, ISDN channels, analogue phones and anything that relies on a copper phone line — including some card machines, fax machines, alarm systems, door entry and ADSL broadband.

Can I keep my business phone numbers?

In most cases yes. Numbers can usually be ported to a hosted VoIP or cloud phone system. The sooner you plan, the smoother the porting process tends to be.
